Amazon’s newest offering aims to make video calling more interactive for youngsters. Glow, which was announced today at Amazon’s fall hardware presentation, is essentially two gadgets in one. It combines a projector and an 8-inch LCD teleconferencing display to create a 19-inch touch-sensitive surface. Parents, relatives, and grandparents can use the Glow smartphone app to connect to the gadget and interact remotely with the projected playspace.

Object scanning allows youngsters to convert toys and other objects into digital stickers that they may use in the device’s interactive activities. Glow also has a physical privacy toggle that turns off the microphones and cameras built into the device. To create games and other interactive content for Glow, Amazon collaborated with Disney, Mattel, Nickelodeon, and Sesame Street. Aside from video games, Amazon claims that there are thousands of children’s books available for your children to read. They can also doodle with the device.

In the coming weeks, Amazon will make Glow available to early-access users. The device will cost $249.99 at first, then rising to $299.99. Each Glow comes with a mat, a mat case, and a year of free Amazon Kids+ and Tangram Bits access. Each device also comes with a two-year worry-free guarantee. If your child smashes their Glow in any way, Amazon will replace it for free.
