Amazon will introduce two new Alexa programs focused on healthcare and senior homes for retired people. Hospitals and senior living homes may use Alexa Smart Properties to operate their customized version of the voice assistant.
Alexa may be used at retirement homes to assist inhabitants in staying in touch with family and friends, staff, participating in events, and remaining engaged with other community members. Working staff may use Alexa to make announcements, apart from the voice assistant’s capability to operate connected devices, smart TVs, and more.
Amazon‘s goal with the healthcare initiative is to allow staff workers to check in with patients without having to enter their rooms, among other things. Patients, in turn, can ask nurses questions, and nurses will be able to react to quick inquiries without leaving their station. They may also ask Alexa to play music or a podcast. Care providers, like those in the senior living program, might utilize Alexa to make announcements. This initiative expands on a pilot project launched in 2019 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Amazon has been working on a version of Alexa for healthcare practitioners for quite some time. According to 2017 reports, the company was building hardware and software for healthcare applications, and those speculations became stronger the following year. Amazon released the first HIPAA-compliant Alexa skills in 2019, allowing clinicians to assist patients to manage prescriptions and deliver blood glucose readings and diabetic guidelines to people with diabetes. Over the last few years, it has also gained ground in the telehealth sector.
