DuckDuckGo has provided a sneak preview of its upcoming desktop app. CEO Gabriel Weinberg also looked ahead in a blog post that summarized the company’s year. He stated that DuckDuckGo will incorporate the privacy safeguards that the company is recognized for into the app. You can also count on the speed and simplicity of its mobile app.

For search, surfing, email, and other services, “Robust privacy protection” will be activated by default. Weinberg described the app as not only a “privacy browser” but “an everyday browsing app that respects your privacy.”

DuckDuckGo is developing the app utilizing OS-provided rendering engines rather than projects like Chromium, as it did on mobile. Weinberg claims that this aided the development team to “strip away a lot of the unnecessary cruft and clutter that’s accumulated over the years in major browsers.”

The DuckDuckGo desktop is cleaner and far more private than Chrome, according to Weinberg, thanks to a refined interface and the Fire Button (which shuts all tabs and wipes browsing data with a single press). Based on early tests, he claims it’s “significantly faster” than Google’s browser – let’s hope it’s also less of a memory leech than Chrome. DuckDuckGo has not stated when the desktop app will be available.

Weinberg points out that DuckDuckGo has strengthened its search and tracker blocking tools in the previous year. DuckDuckGo’s mobile version, he claims, is currently the top downloaded Android browser in key markets. The company debuted a free email forwarding service in July, which eliminates tracking pixels from messages.
