Google’s productivity suite has gone through several names over the years. What began as Google Apps evolved into G Suite, which is today known as Workspace. During the same time, the company announced new subscription plans while discontinuing older ones, resulting in an equal number of ways to access the software. It now intends to discontinue a tier that survived the suite’s most recent makeover.
As per a reliable source’s discovery, the company informed Workspace admins that as of July 1st, 2022, it would no longer supply G Suite legacy free edition. Beginning on May 1st, the business intends to convert those users to paid accounts. Google says it will automatically choose a subscription plan for customers who do not choose one on their own by the beginning of May, emphasizing that the choice would be based on their current consumption. Individuals or organizations that the firm automatically migrates to a premium subscription plan will not be invoiced for at least two months. Individuals and businesses that do not enter their billing information by July 1st will have their accounts suspended, according to the corporation. Workspace accounts for businesses and enterprises start at $6 per user each month. Those affected by the decision will receive “deep” discounts from the corporation. To be clear, if you’re using Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and other apps through a free Google account, you won’t be affected by the move. What’s more, Google will continue to offer free Workspace plans to nonprofits and schools that qualify for its Fundamentals tier. That’s not changing with today’s announcement, nor do organizations with legacy G Suite Basic, Business, Education, or Nonprofit subscriptions have to worry about a potential surprise bill.
