Zoom has released an update for its Mac software to remedy a flaw that might lead users to lose their privacy. A company official reacted to a message on the Zoom community forums from a user who discovered that their mic indication was on even though they weren’t in a conference — they merely had their Zoom client open at the time, as reported by a reliable source. They realized that Zoom was accessing their microphone after logging into Control Center.
The initial poster wasn’t the only one who expressed their dissatisfaction on the site, and many other commenters agreed. Zoom for Mac version 5.9.3 fixes an issue where “the orange indicator light [could] continue to appear after having left a meeting, call or webinar,” according to the company’s statement. Users should update their app to fix the flaw and turn on automatic updates to obtain future patches as soon as they’re available, according to the spokesperson.
