Apple’s iPhones and other products have grown increasingly pricey, and the company may be experimenting with new sales approaches to help mitigate the impact. According to a credible source, Apple is working on a subscription service for the iPhone and other devices. You’d pay a monthly charge rather than an upfront payment or financed installments, similar to the iPhone upgrading scheme. The subscription would “likely” be managed through your Apple account.
As of now, no specifics on what would be included were known, although the service would feature regular improvements and would begin in late 2022 or early 2023. Pricing information is also unavailable. Apple’s current upgrade scheme presently demands a monthly payment of $35 or more in order to receive both yearly iPhone upgrades and continuing AppleCare+ coverage.
Apple has already declined to comment on the matter. To be sure, the company hasn’t shied away from embracing subscriptions. Digital services such as Apple Music, TV+, and Fitness+ have accounted for a fast-expanding portion of the company’s income, helping to smooth out the ups and downs of seasonal sales cycles as well as a largely static phone market. A larger hardware subscription option would broaden this strategy – Apple might expect a more consistent cash stream, especially from customers who would otherwise wait longer to replace their devices.
