Snapchat has initiated testing for a paid subscription plan called Snapchat Plus, which would offer users early access to exclusive icons and experimental features like pinning some conversations.
The social media company has not yet clearly specified the exact benefits Snapchat Plus would offer its users, nor when it would be rolled out. The feature was first reported on Twitter by researcher and app developer Alessandro Paluzzi in a series of tweets.
“Snapchat+ gives you access to exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features such as the ability to pin the conversation with your Best Friend, the access to custom Snapchat icons, a special badge, etc…” wrote Paluzzi.
With Snapchat Plus, users will have access to a few special app features. You will be able to pin one friend as a best friend, get some special Snapchat icons and a subscriber profile badge, and keep track of the number of rewatches on the Snapchat stories. He also added that you will be able to view your friends’ locations for the last 24 hours if they share them with you.
According to the tweets shared by Paluzzi, the premium service will cost $4.83 per month with a discount for those who subscribe to a semi-annual or annual plan which would come to around $48.39 per year. The charges and offers might change until the official launch of the premium plan as these details are yet to be confirmed by the company.
“We’re doing early internal testing of Snapchat Plus, a new subscription service for Snapchatters. We’re excited about the potential to share exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features with our subscribers, and learn more about how we can best serve our community,” company spokesperson Liz Markman said.
