Insta360 Go 3 Is The Company’s Latest Compact Action Cam With A Wireless Display

The adaptability of Insta360’s thumb-sized Go 2 action cam had surprised us, but it’s set to be surpassed by its sequel with some surprises. The new Insta360 Go 3 features a bigger, more rectangular “Action Pod” removable body, giving the overall appearance a closer similarity to a traditional action cam. Not only does this updated model have a longer combined battery life (more on that later), but the Action Pod body also serves as a 2.2-inch flip touchscreen, which means you won’t need to pull out your phone as frequently. The entire equipment is effectively a 2-in-1 action camera and a wireless display.

The camera on the Go 3 has also been much improved. The video resolution has been increased from 1440p to 2.7k (2,720 x 1,536), which means you’ll get more out of Insta360’s famous “FlowState” video stabilization method. The inclusion of a second microphone has enhanced audio quality, resolving an old issue. The camera is also waterproof up to 5 meters deep, rather than only 4, but keep in mind that the “Action Pod” is only IPX4 water resistant, so do not immerse it.

The battery life of the camera has been increased from 30 minutes to 45 minutes (1080p@30fps), and when mounted on the “Action Pod,” you may obtain up to 170 minutes. The Go 3 also marks an advancement in the architecture of Insta360’s heat dissipation system, so the only constraints on maximum video duration are battery life and data storage. Say goodbye to the 30-minute time limit on each clip. This is also likely why the Go 3 now comes in a 128GB variant, but you may prefer the 64GB or 32GB alternatives if they are more affordable.

The Go 3 includes three new video modes in addition to the standard timelapse, “TimeShift” (Insta360’s version on hyperlapse), and slow motion (up to 4x) functions. Timed capture, in example, is useful for setting up auto capture for a dawn so that you don’t have to get out of bed to switch on the camera.

The Go 3 comes with a variety of mounting attachments, much like its predecessor. The magnet pendant is still present for first-person point-of-view photographs from chest level, but I prefer utilizing the provided clip attachment with a cap to match my eye level. There’s also a pivot stand with a reusable adhesive base, which can be removed if you want a 1/4-inch mount. You can get a rapid release mount for action sports or a monkey tail mount for casual catches anyplace you wish if necessary. Dog owners can consider purchasing the “Fetch Stick” to obtain some amusing close-ups of their dogs.

The 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB editions of the Insta360 Go 3 are now available for $379.99, $399.99, and $429.99, respectively, through the official web shop or Amazon.
