Chrome Will Soon Clarify The Precise Reason Why Your Extensions Were Removed

We might have tried to utilize an extension only to find that it is suddenly inaccessible. Google is attempting to mitigate this by telling you when it removes an extension from the Chrome Web Store. Of course, this will only apply to the ones you already have installed, not whenever the store’s options change.

With this new version, you should receive a notification whenever one of three things happens: If an extension you use is designated as malware or is removed from the Chrome Web Store owing to policy violations — such as hate speech or spyware — the developer unpublished it. If Google has granted a developer time to remedy or appeal a potential violation, you will not receive a notification. Google already has measures in place to protect users if it discovers a malicious extension. As previously stated, once recognized as such, the extension should be deactivated and incapable of causing harm.

These new notifications will display in Chrome’s settings under the “privacy and security” menu, under the “safety check” section. You’ll be notified how many extensions Google removed from the marketplace and given the chance to go over additional details. Chrome 117, which is planned to be released in early September, will have the new functionality. It will be accompanied by other updates, such as a music icon replacing the present lock symbol next to the search box.
