Wearable AI devices are all the rage – at least in theory. While Humane AI’s AI pin and Rabbit’s Rabbit R1 did not manage to live up to claims, this new AI wearable gadget may change the tides for products of its kind.
The Limitless Pendant is a coin-sized gadget by Colorado-based software development company Limitless. The device’s primary function is that it lets you record everything you hear. The AI part of it allows for real-time transcription and note-taking. “The core job to be done is initially around meetings,” Dan Siroker, CEO of Limitless tells The Verge. “Preparing you for meetings, transcribing meetings, giving you real-time notes of meetings and summaries of meetings.”
The app can record audio from your computer’s speakers and microphone for $20 a month. You can also grant it access to your calendar and email. When used in conjunction with all your other work-related apps, Limitless can be very helpful in helping you manage your conversations.
The device itself costs $99 and has a battery life of 100 hours. It records the person speaking to you with impressive audio clarity by using beam-forming technology that cancels out noise in your surrounding areas. The Limitless Pendant features a “Consent Mode” that detects new voices and waits to record them until the software determines that they have given consent to be recorded. Keep in mind that this mode is turned off by default. An LED glows whenever the pendant is recording. All of the information you capture is uploaded to Limitless, combined with other data, and made accessible via their apps.
You can clip the device to your shirt or wear it around your neck which makes it convenient and hands-free to use.
Limitless faces tough competition ahead, as most meeting tools already have AI features built into them that allow users to extract key points and summaries. Transcription tools are also abundant in the market. However, the company assures users that this is not all there is to the device. We have to wait and see what Limitless does in the coming years.
