Meta has announced a significant upgrade to Meta AI, its open-source generative AI assistant. The GenAI’s all-new version is set to be powered by the Llama 3 large language model, which will greatly improve the caliber of content it can generate.

Meta plans to roll out updated versions of its AI-powered smart assistant across all of its apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. More than a dozen nations, including the US, Singapore, Canada, and Australia, will start using the newest technology.

The AI software will appear everywhere, including in search bars, news feeds, and even your chats. People will have the ability to request assistance from Meta AI in order to complete tasks or get information. The technology can write text, have conversations, and even create AI images in real-time. When you begin typing a text-to-image prompt in a Meta AI chat, you will notice that the image changes as you keep on adding details about the type of image you want to create.

Additionally, according to Meta, its Llama 3 model is now capable of generating images that are “sharper and higher quality” and has improved text display. you can also request that Meta AI animate any images you submit, which you can then turn into GIFS.

“With Llama 3, Meta A.I. will now be the most intelligent freely available assistant,” Zuckerberg said in an interview. “And because we’ve reached the quality level we want, we’re now going to make it much more prominent and easier to use across all our apps.”

This is Meta’s largest product rollout to date, and it features powerful AI technology. The social media behemoth began incorporating generative artificial intelligence into its apps last year, albeit in small doses. In September, it unveiled a range of chatbots and characters with conversational capabilities. However, the scope and goal of this new initiative surpass that, integrating AI products into the most prominent and frequently used parts of Meta’s applications.

While Silicon Valley start-ups raise billions of dollars to develop AI-powered apps and services they believe will define the next phase of computing, other tech giants are also catching up with the AI race by integrating the technology into their products.

However, Meta’s executives don’t seem too worried about AI saturation. “We’re excited to share our next-generation assistant with even more people and can’t wait to see how it enhances people’s lives,” the company has stated.

The move comes amidst Meta AI’s image generator facing criticism for refusing to generate interracial couples.
