Tech giants have been releasing new AI upgrades left and right, and Apple is no different. While tech enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the full scoop on iOS 18’s features set to be announced at WWDC on June 10, there have been more speculations regarding what’s to come.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared in his Power On newsletter that Apple will integrate a variety of robust artificial intelligence (AI) tools into iOS 18. These tools will reportedly combine on-device processing with dedicated servers equipped with Apple’s own chips. The newsletter goes on to talk about some AI-powered features that will enhance the performance of Apple’s voice assistant, Siri.
Siri might be able to carry out a number of complex tasks on the iPhone thanks to upgraded conversational abilities.
Gurman states that Apple “will improve Siri’s voice capabilities, giving it a more conversational feel, and add features that help users with their day-to-day lives — an approach it calls “proactive intelligence.”
Consequently, it has been reported that Apple is developing a large language model that will run locally. Instead of giving different website excerpts in response to a user’s query, Siri is anticipated to use AI capabilities to provide a direct response.
It is also being speculated that Siri will demonstrate sophisticated functions like auto-summarizing notifications, text summarization, note-taking, making calendar appointments, voice memos, live transcription, and much more. Reports also suggest that Siri will be able to analyze the contents of messages and produce responses based on them.It’s not just Siri that has received AI updates. A number of other iPhone applications, including Safari, Messages, Mail, and others will reportedly showcase AI-powered features as well. Apple’s Ajax large language model is rumored to power iOS 18’s capabilities for AI-powered app search, document analysis, and text summarization.
