The iPhone, iPad, and Mac were among the devices for which Apple Intelligence was unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2024. The AI suite of features may also be added to Apple Vision Pro, the company’s mixed-reality headset, according to a recent report. Now, it is speculated that the company is developing a robotic tabletop device that may be the first home appliance to leverage Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Just last week, code references were found in Apple’s backend systems, suggesting that the company is currently working on a new smart speaker with a touchscreen display. It was also reported that the device will be powered by the A18 chip, which will make its debut later this year in the iPhone 16 lineup. It was anticipated that the device, known as “HomeAccessory17,1,” will operate on a version of tvOS. There is a possibility that this report was hinting at the upcoming robotic tabletop device.
In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg asserted that Apple has no intentions to add AI capabilities to its HomePod or Apple TV lineup. Rather, a gadget that is apparently still in the development stage will be the first home appliance from the company to use Apple Intelligence.
Gurman first referenced the upcoming robotics projects by Apple back in April. “The iPhone maker also has developed an advanced table-top home device that uses robotics to move a display around…The idea was to have the display mimic the head movements – such as nodding – of a person on a FaceTime session. It would also have features to precisely lock on to a single person among a crowd during a video call,” he wrote.
It is currently unknown what artificial intelligence capabilities this device may have integrated. Furthermore, there is no information on when the gadget might be unveiled either.
