Tech giants are AI-ifying things left and right – and Google is no different. In a recent announcement, the company unveiled three new features for its Chrome browser. They are – Lens for desktop, tab compare, and natural language queries for search history. These updates provide new methods to manage browser history and engage with online content by integrating Google’s AI and Gemini models.
In the upcoming days, users worldwide will get access to the Lens feature. Use the right-click menu or the Lens icon in the address bar to start using it. You can use Lens to perform a visual search by selecting specific parts of a website. Users can further refine their searches or pose follow-up queries on the side panel that displays the results. You may receive AI Overviews in response to your questions as well.
Tab Compare is a new feature that will be available to customers initially in the United States. The purpose of this function is to simplify online shopping sessions. Using several open tabs, the tool creates an AI-powered summary of the products, combining details like features, specs, costs, and reviews into a single table that makes it easy for users to view and compare.
Among the most helpful upgrades of the three is the capability to utilize natural language searches to search your browsing history. The company will begin offering AI-powered history searches to US users in the upcoming weeks as an opt-in service. How does the feature work? Often, you may remember nothing about the page you were on except for a few specifics. Now, users can utilize conversational queries, like “What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?” to search their browser history.
Although these features offer improved functionality, there are concerns regarding privacy associated with them. Google has however confirmed that information from incognito mode surfing will not be included in the enhanced history search.
