OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, may release its new reasoning-focused AI model soon. The new model codenamed ‘Strawberry’ will be available within the next two weeks, as per a report by The Information.
Strawberry distinguishes itself from other AI models by prioritizing responses that are rooted in reasoning. In contrast to other conversational AI models, Strawberry takes ten to twenty seconds to “think” before responding. This deliberate pause enables the AI to address queries more carefully, lowering the possibility of mistakes and maybe even improving its performance in tasks involving multi-step or sophisticated reasoning.
The project’s objective is to give AI the ability to generate answers to questions by planning, navigating, and conducting in-depth online research on its own—a skill that hasn’t been attained by previous AI models.
Strawberry will be integrated into the ChatGPT platform, but it will remain a stand-alone alternative, according to the report, which mentions two people who have tested the model. The specifics of how it will be made available are currently unknown, although it’s possible that users will be able to choose Strawberry from a list of AI models within the ChatGPT service.
Initially, the model will only support text as it isn’t going to have the multimodal capabilities offered by some of OpenAI’s other models, which can handle both text and images. Additionally, early testers have observed that simple query responses can occasionally take too long to process, and the apparent improvement over GPT-4 may not always warrant the extra wait time.
Strawberry also contains a feature that is meant to recall prior exchanges to deliver more tailored responses – a feature that is also available in ChatGPT. However, certain inconsistencies have been observed in this functionality during testing.
It is anticipated that Strawberry will have different pricing than the current ChatGPT model, which provides both free and subscription-based tiers.
