During its ‘Made On’ event on Wednesday, September 18, YouTube introduced new AI features designed to enhance creativity for its users. These announcements aim to unlock “new forms of expression for creators.” Among the exciting updates is the ability for users to create six-second standalone video clips for YouTube Shorts, utilizing an AI video model called Veo, developed by Google DeepMind.

“For example, if you’re looking through your footage and feel like you’re missing something to help tie it all together, you can effortlessly generate a singular clip that fits right in with the content you’ve already captured,” the Alphabet-owned company stated in a blog post. YouTube also announced that these AI-generated clips will be labeled and watermarked using SynthID.

Dream Screen, which allows you to create backgrounds on Shorts, will also be enhanced with Veo so that AI-generated backgrounds for videos can be made. However, these features are set to be available later this year. The Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio will allow platform creators to ask an AI bot for recommendations on titles, thumbnails, outlines, and ideas for videos.

Additional Features for the YouTube Creator Network

Communities: It is a newly created section on YouTube creators’ channels where followers and artists can interact by discussing videos, sharing fan art, and more. Only a small number of creators have access to this at the moment, but more creators will eventually be able to use them.

Hype: With a single tap, users will now be able to “hype” the videos that the creators have posted. The Hype option will show up beneath the existing Like button of the video. A creator’s video will rise onto a list of the top 100 hyped videos if it receives more “hypes.” A YouTube video can only be hyped by users three times per week. This feature will only be available for videos uploaded by creators with less than 500,000 subscribers.

Automatic Dubbing: Translating audio tracks into many languages before incorporating them into videos is made possible by the Automatic Dubbing feature. Only Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian will be supported initially when it launches in the upcoming months. Moreover, YouTube stated that Automatic Dubbing will enable creators to “transfer your tone and intonation, the ambiance of your surroundings – and infuse it into the dubbed audio.” Additionally, the company said that it is introducing AI-enhanced reply suggestions in the YouTube Studio app’s comments section.

Jewels and Gifts: Jewels and gifts are a new collection of digital items that fans can send to creators during live streams. Initially, this feature will be available exclusively for vertical live streams in the US.

YouTube Shopping: YouTube Shopping, the company’s program that allows creators to share their favorite products with fans, is being expanded to include Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This feature is already available in the US and South Korea.

Connected TVs: YouTube reported that the number of creators earning most of their revenue from TV screens has increased by over 30% year over year. In response, YouTube is developing features that will allow TVs to play videos or live streams directly from a creator’s channel, along with simplified subscription options and easier access to links in descriptions.
