Google has announced that it will bring a few major upgrades to its shopping page, including the integration of Gemini AI.
The new homepage will display a customized feed of products that you might like, product reviews, and related YouTube videos. Google says that in order to generate the suggestions feed, they are looking at users’ YouTube video viewing history and search history. Users can further curate their feed using thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons. This works similarly to social media platforms that have an algorithmic “For You” page.
“Shopping is personal — that’s why the new Google Shopping home page has a personalized feed to inspire you with shoppable products and videos based on your preferences. And because most of us will research purchases over several days or weeks, Google Shopping lets you pick up right where you left off last time,” reads Google’s blog.
You can also turn off the personalized feed and manage your preferences by navigating to the Google Shopping menu and clicking on “shopping preferences.”
The upgrade also includes an AI-powered summary feature. As per the example included in the company’s blog, users can now search for “men’s winter jacket for Seattle” using Google’s AI-powered buying experience, and the system will provide an AI-generated summary that includes every relevant detail for your specific needs.
With this revamp, Google might be trying to keep users on its platform for longer instead of sending them straight to other websites.
Google is now also offering new deal-finding features to its users, such as price comparison, price insights, and price tracking. In addition, there is a new deals page that is tailored specifically for you to browse deals; simply click the “Deals” link at the top of the page to explore more.
