WhatsApp for Android is reportedly developing a new AI widget. Feature tracker WABetaInfo has indicated that this instant messaging app is working on a widget specifically for Meta AI.
As per a report from WABetaInfo, this new functionality was discovered in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, 2.25.1.27. The goal of this feature is to provide users with quick access to Meta AI without needing to open the WhatsApp app.
The widget will be optional and will be available to users who can access AI-powered chats, which are currently limited to certain regions and users.
According to a screenshot included in the report, the widget features a light grey background, a white text box, and a camera icon. The text box displays the circular Meta AI logo along with the phrase “Ask Meta AI.” Users can click on the text field to enter a prompt. Once the prompt is submitted, WhatsApp transitions to a full-screen interface for the Meta AI chat, allowing users to view the response. At this time, it appears that the widget does not display replies from the chatbot.
Moreover, the camera icon is designed to let users easily upload images to Meta AI. Users can ask for information about the images or request edits from the AI chatbot.
Currently, this feature is still in development and is expected to be available to users in the near future. It aims to streamline the experience for Meta AI users by reducing the steps needed to access the service.
The Meta-owned messaging platform is also working on a feature that will allow users to create and personalize their own AI chatbots within the app. This will enable users to design AI companions by defining their personalities, goals, and tasks. The behavior of the AI will be customized based on the user’s descriptions for various tasks, such as providing motivation or managing different activities. While there is no official release date for this feature, it is anticipated to be available soon.
