Google has announced the dates for its upcoming I/O developer conference, which will be held over two days on May 20 and 21. This year, the event will be accessible to everyone online, featuring live-streamed keynotes and sessions, as stated in an FAQ. Additionally, there will be an in-person gathering at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, similar to previous years.
The conference will kick off with a keynote address from Google CEO Sundar Pichai at 10 AM PT. Following this, there will be a developer keynote and on-demand technical sessions. Notably, for the first time, Google will stream developer product keynotes on both days of the event.
Last year’s Google I/O began on May 14, 2024, and was filled with exciting announcements, including new Gemini AI models and features, the Project Astra AI assistant, the Veo generative AI video model, and significant AI-focused updates to Google Search.
Similar to last year, Google has indicated that AI will be a major focus at this year’s conference. Attendees can expect updates on Gemini, new AI-powered tools, and Android 16. The event’s homepage already includes a “Start building today” section, showcasing the Gemini open model, Google AI Studio, and NotebookLM.
Moreover, there will be important updates related to Android, AI, web, and cloud technologies. Developers can anticipate in-depth technical sessions, product showcases, and hands-on demonstrations.
This announcement follows the launch of a fun puzzle game by Google that helped unveil the dates of the event. It’s also interesting that this year’s conference will coincide with Microsoft’s Build conference, which is scheduled from May 19 to May 22.
Google will release the agenda and session list as we approach I/O 2025. Online registration is now open and is free of charge.
