Instagram, the popular FB-owned photo and video sharing social networking service, is celebrating its 10th birthday today. They are marking the completion of their first decade into existence by bringing back its classic icons. The photo sharing app is also unveiling a handful of other updates, including a private map and archive of your stories from the last three years.
The classic icons include a birthday Easter Egg that’s given as a fun surprise. Users can use it as their home screen icon. Other classic icons available are the Polaroid-style camera designs and quite a lot of themed variants of the current logo as well as logos from its 10 year journey (interesting color changes of the logo are available).
To find the Easter Egg icon, you need to go to the Settings first, and swipe the whole screen down. A series of emojis will appear then. Those retro emojis are just dreamy and romantic taking you back to the simpler classic times.
It looks like the classic icons on Instagram will be available only in the month of October. Their official tweet reads ““this month we’re inviting you to change your app icon to your favourite”. Users are not personalizing their instagram profile with these emojis.
Other birthday updates include a Stories Map feature. It’s a private map and calendar of stories you’ve shared on Instagram over the last three years. You can share, download or save these stories and keep as your highlights.
