The reign of BlackBerry as the former king of mobiles is coming to an end. The company has stated that classic handsets running BlackBerry OS 7.1 or before, as well as OS 10, would lose essential services as of January 4th. And by “key,” it means extremely critical features such as phone calls, texting, data, and even emergency 9-1-1 access. According to reports, you should also expect problems with Wi-Fi and apps like BlackBerry World and Desktop Manager. The PlayBook, the company’s inadequate tablet, will likewise be discontinued on January 4th.
All of this is, of course, not surprising. BlackBerry’s software store and famous Messenger (BBM) service were both shut down in 2019. That was the end of the road. If you recall, the company was far too late to respond to the danger posed by the iPhone, and it failed to find any success by embracing Android. At the very least, it retains QNX, BlackBerry’s current operating system that drives infotainment systems from Toyota, Audi, Honda, and a slew of other well-known automakers.
