Microsoft has officially launched its Designer platform for AI-driven image creation. Following an extensive preview phase, Designer is now accessible to most users with a Microsoft account. Available on the web in over 80 languages, as well as through mobile apps for iOS and Android, and a Windows application, Designer offers versatile options for visual creation. Users can generate entirely new visuals from scratch using AI or modify and enhance existing images. The platform provides numerous templates to help with common image types, such as greeting cards, smartphone wallpapers, and profile avatars. For more advanced users, Designer allows the development of custom templates and personal artwork, offering a high degree of creative freedom.

Designer can function independently, but Microsoft is highlighting its integration with the company’s suite of services.  With the support of Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant, images created in Designer can be effortlessly connected to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint projects. To fully leverage these features, a Copilot Pro subscription will be necessary.

If you’re familiar with Canva, you’ll find Designer quite similar in its approach. The platform offers a comparable user experience and now includes AI-powered features. As initially revealed by Microsoft in 2022, Designer integrates with OpenAI’s DALL-E image generator. Given that Copilot already incorporates DALL-E 3 and ChatGPT 4 Turbo, it’s natural that Designer would seamlessly connect with these established services.
