Amazon takes online shopping to the next level with the Amazon View, an augmented virtual room that lets you view multiple items at once. It shows you a basic layout of your space in 3D and lets you view your furniture choices in 3D. You can browse and add your Wishlist into the customized virtual room and accurately check the dimensions of the furniture that you wish to buy. This immersive technology is perfect for people who wish to do a quick interior design check before actually purchasing a piece of furniture.
The tool lets you review the ambiance and aesthetics of a room, before making the purchase. Although the AR service was first introduced in 2020 in its nascent form, Amazon has now decided to make it more ‘Metaverse-like’. Unlike its predecessor, the latest update lets you virtually add multiple products to a room at the same time. This enables you to visualize how a complete set of new products will fit together in your own space. Moreover, you can use the feature when you are away from home by saving the AR snapshots of the room for later access.
The feature is currently available across thousands of furniture products available on the ecommerce platform, including those that are offered by Amazon and some by its third-party sellers. To use the feature, a customer needs to click on the ‘View in Your Room’ button that will appear under eligible furniture products in the Amazon shopping app for iOS and desktop web browsers.
In the AR experience, customers will be presented with suggestions of complementary products to the one they are viewing. As consumers browse through these recommendations, they can add other products to the same room, keep rearranging, and find out the best look. The products in the AR view will be shown both in scale and in high-definition, so as to avoid confusion about how the item will look in real life. If customers are not ready to make a decision, they can choose the “Save Room” option on iOS, which then saves a snapshot of their room in a new section under their Amazon account (“Your Rooms”). For easy access, they’ll also be emailed a link to the respective saved room.
With Metaverse gaining immense popularity, and digital avatars taking over the online space, virtual shopping is predicted to grow exponentially. Looks like, a holographic life is not just going to be speculative fiction and is soon going to be a part of our digital life.
