Google unveiled the third public beta of Android 13 today, claiming platform stability. That indicates that Google has finalized important upgrades, and the time between now and the final release is all about putting the finishing touches on them. It’s also two months ahead of Android 12, which was a far more ambitious version that arrived with several bugs.
The initial developer preview of Android 13 arrived in February, the first public beta in April, and the second public beta with a huge I/O announcement in May. While Android 12 was focused on delivering some substantial new customization choices in the form of Material You, Android 13 is a modest update that expands on those capabilities with app icon themes and preset UI color variations. This year’s faster timeframe certainly reflects more on how sophisticated Android 12 was than anything else. In any case, Google is likely anxious to push Android 13 out the door and put the problems with the rollout of Android 12 behind them. Whenever you wish to try out Android 13, check Google’s developer site to see if your device is compatible. Or else, you’ll have to wait for the final public release, which is expected to happen this fall.
