Apple announced the opening of an online store on China’s largest messaging platform called WeChat. It goes deep into China’s user base to keep expanding its retail channels. The company said that it will sell products including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and, Macs in this store. It is not the first time that Apple is launching a store on a Chinese platform. Apple has already established a store on Tmall, Alibaba’s e-commerce platform.
The new launch can be seen as an attempt by Apple to intensify its presence over China’s prominent internet platforms. Apple has decided to launch the store on WeChat, just because of the shifting consumer behavior in China, as there is a trend among Chinese consumers to use platforms like WeChat and ByteDance’s Douyin.
Certain benefits are given to those people who shop from stores on WeChat. Customers can place orders through WeChat along with enjoying free shipping. Tencent, the parent company of WeChat mentioned that users can access other Apple services too here. Outside the US, China has an upper hand as one of Apple’s key markets. As per the research reports of Counterpoint, the top three positions in 2022’s chart of best-selling phones in China were dominated by the iPhone 13 series.
