Apple has rolled out its iOS15.4 update with 37 fresh new emojis that include the ‘pregnant man’, ‘pregnant person’, and other gender-neutral emojis available to all iPhone users. Although the company released the update in March, it has now made further changes and released the new version which includes a gender-neutral person with a crown as well. The new emojis come with five different skin tones that users can choose from. The update also features some other interesting emojis like a disco ball, troll, beans, melting face, and more.
The internet was quick to respond, mocking the situation and some even stating that the man was not genuinely pregnant but had simply overeaten. “Is it a pregnant guy emoji or simply me after an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet?”. Another user wrote, “Don’t you think it looks like a beer belly man”.
However, some users are dissatisfied. “Apple rolled out a pregnant man emoji. News flash…no man has ever had a baby and never will. Just plain nonsense.”, a user tweeted. While another wrote, “@Apple biology says that a man can’t get pregnant, why do you have a new emoji that says differently?”. Some even claimed that the company’s new move of following the trend of gender neutrality and fluidity is merely ‘woke’ appeasement. A user wrote, “There is no such thing as a pregnant man @Apple! You are promoting mental illness in all your wokeness! Give me a break!”.
The inclusion of the pregnant man and other gender-inclusive emojis is not the first move by Apple towards making people of different communities feel welcome. In 2019, the tech giant had added several same-sex couple and gender-neutral emojis to iPhone keyboards.
Meanwhile, iOS 15.4 update includes a new Siri speech option, the ability to deliver date and time information offline, improvements to Safari web page translations with support for Chinese and Italian, and more. Thanks to the latest update, iPhone users can now unlock their iPhones even while wearing masks. However, currently this feature is only available for iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max users.
