Apple Vision Pro is a $3,499 AR Headset from Apple.

Apple Vision Pro is an augmented reality headgear that “seamlessly” merges the physical and digital worlds. “It’s the first Apple product you look through rather than at,” said CEO Tim Cook of the gadget, which resembles a pair of ski goggles. It has a separate battery pack and is operated with the eyes, hands, and voice, as previously reported. It will start at $3,499 and be on sale early next year, initially in the United States, with more nations following later in the year.

The Vision Pro is generally marketed as an AR gadget, although it can convert between augmented and full virtual reality through a dial. The gadget lacks a controller, and you navigate rows of app icons on the visionOS operating system by looking at them. You can tap to pick and flick to navigate, as well as provide voice instructions, and Apple claims that “hundreds of thousands of familiar iPhone and iPad apps” will function that way automatically. Furthermore, the headset supports Bluetooth peripherals such as the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, and it allows you to connect your Mac to use within the headset. Even if your hands are low on your body, down-facing cameras can record them.

The headgear features a glass front and an aluminum frame, as well as five sensors, 12 cameras, a 4K display for each eye, and a supposedly fan-cooled microprocessor. The headset mask (which Apple calls a “Light Seal”) and strap (which Apple calls a “Head Band”) are cloth-lined and modular, and Apple claims they can flex to accommodate a range of facial shapes and head sizes. The Head Band is ribbed and goes around the back of your head; different sizes and kinds of band may be swapped.

For those who wear glasses, Zeiss has produced unique optical inserts that magnetically connect to the lenses. It includes an external battery that lasts up to two hours and connects through a “supple woven cable” that allows it to fit into a pocket, or you can plug it into external power and use it all day. Apple claims that the panel will be unprecedentedly crisp and capable of displaying 4K content.

The system incorporates an M2 as well as a new processor dubbed the R1.

You’re also not separated from the people around you, according to Apple. The EyeSight technology in the headset will reveal your eyes, and if you’re in full VR, a luminous screen will conceal them to indicate you’re not available. It also scans your face to produce a digital “persona” – essentially a hyperrealistic avatar. The gadget employs passthrough video, which allows you to see the actual world in full color, but you can also project 3D things into real space, including items pulled from a message thread.

When you’re chatting to someone over the phone, you may use spatial audio to arrange FaceTime participants as “video tiles” around the room. In addition, while wearing the headset, you may capture and “relive” 180-degree footage using a 3D camera. Apple also touts TV and Arcade content on the headset, including premium Disney material.

The headgear has apparently been in the works for years, going through multiple prototypes as well as years of delays. It is intended to be CEO Tim Cook’s distinctive addition to Apple’s product range, and it has received plaudits from industry insiders, despite the fact that it will join a market that has yet to take off. Its main rival will most certainly be Meta, which has had some success with its games-focused Quest 2 headgear and a more mixed reaction with its general-purpose Quest Pro.
