Amazon’s audiobook company Audible is the latest to make headlines for incorporating AI into its offerings. The company recently announced that it is testing an AI-powered search feature dubbed “Maven”.

Maven is a personal recommendation expert that can help users refine their audiobook searches. Select Audible customers in the United States can now communicate with Maven by making natural language queries, and the tool responds with a personalized book recommendation after sorting through Audible’s library of over one million titles. For instance, you can say  “I’m looking for an uplifting fiction novel with a female protagonist” and be presented with a book that matches that description.

“As the go-to destination for audiobook discovery, Audible is always innovating to make it easier for you to find your next favorite listen,” said Andy Tsao, Audible’s Chief Product and Analytics Officer in the company’s recent blog post. “With Maven, we’re introducing an AI-powered search feature to help listeners uncover hidden gems across our vast catalog, even for their most specific requests. And this is just the beginning—we will continuously improve this feature to ensure our users always have the best possible book recommendations at their fingertips.”

It should be noted that this search feature is not the first time Audible has dabbled in AI. The company disclosed that in addition to announcing the launch of Maven, it is also testing AI-generated review summaries and AI-curated collections.

Available on both iOS and Android, the feature is currently restricted to a “subset” of the audiobook library. It will be available to around half of the Audible users who are based in the US and will be available across all membership categories. The feature will also undergo continuous improvements as it is a beta product.

Audible has yet to disclose the AI models that were used to power the feature. Want to know more about Amazon’s AI ventures? Here’s a Chatbot by the company that is set to rival ChatGPT!
