Balmuda, the Japanese brand behind the exorbitantly priced steam-powered toaster, has announced the release of its first smartphone. It’s a little gadget with a 4.9-inch display that, according to rumors, looks a lot like the HTC One X, which was introduced over a decade ago. While Balmuda is recognized in its home base for making quirky premium products, this statement isn’t altogether unexpected: It said in May that it will enter the smartphone market before the end of the year.
The Android phone, which boasts 5G connection and wireless charging, was created in collaboration with Kyocera. It sports a 4.9-inch screen with a 1080p resolution, a 48-megapixel back camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a fingerprint sensor. The Balmuda Phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 765 Chipset, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, and a 2,500 mAH battery.
For the time being, the phone will only be available in Japan. Those interested in giving the smartphone a try may obtain it with a Softbank plan, however, they can also buy an unlocked version if that’s a great bet. Pre-orders in Japan will begin on November 17th at 10 a.m., and shipment will begin on November 26th. Balmuda did not specify whether the gadget would be offered elsewhere.
