Bing’s New AI Video Creator Uses OpenAI’s Sora – And It’s Free

Microsoft has unveiled Bing Video Creator, a new feature in its Bing mobile app that allows users to generate AI-powered videos using OpenAI’s Sora model. This marks the first time Sora’s capabilities are available for free, previously exclusive to ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

Bing Video Creator enables users to create five-second vertical videos (9:16 aspect ratio) by simply entering a text prompt. The company has announced that the 16:9 format will be available soon, but currently, users are unable to access any other aspect ratios. 

The tool offers two generation modes: Standard, which is free for all users, and Fast, which is supposed to provide quicker results. However, there have been reports claiming that even in Fast mode, videos take hours to generate.

Each user receives 10 free Fast generations; subsequent uses require 100 Microsoft Rewards points per video. Videos are stored for 90 days and can be downloaded or shared. 

Currently, Bing Video Creator is available on the Bing mobile app for iOS and Android, with desktop and Copilot Search integration planned soon. Users can queue up to three video generations at a time and will receive notifications upon completion. 

While the output quality may not match that of more advanced models like Google’s Veo 3, Bing Video Creator offers an accessible entry point for users interested in AI-generated video content. Microsoft aims to democratize AI video generation, making it more accessible to a broader audience. 

The introduction of Bing Video Creator reflects Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI into its products, following previous initiatives like Bing Image Creator and Copilot Search. By leveraging its partnership with OpenAI, Microsoft continues to expand the reach of AI technologies to everyday users. 

As AI-generated content becomes increasingly prevalent, tools like Bing Video Creator provide users with new ways to engage with digital media. With plans to add horizontal video support and desktop access, Microsoft is poised to further enhance the capabilities of this innovative tool.
