Clubhouse hosts and moderators can lay their hands on a new feature being launched on both iOS and Android versions of the app. The feature will allow creators to record an audio room so that anybody who misses the event in real-time may listen to it afterward. The feature was initially introduced by the company at the end of September.
The feature is called Replay, allowing public rooms to be optionally recorded as they happen and stored to a club or user profile. Replays will also be available for download, allowing anybody hosting a room to share it outside of Clubhouse, “as a podcast, a clip on YouTube, an Instagram story, a TikTok video, or anywhere else.”
The rollout of Replay will also include support for pinned links, a feature that Clubhouse previously provided to allow moderators to display a key link at the top of a room. Anyone listening to a recorded room will also be able to skip to the next speaker, listen at 1.5 or 2x speed, stop, and record 30-second snippets.
Clubhouse creators can check who is listening to a room’s Replay after the live room has ended, allowing them to interact with other people who did not listen in real-time. Beginning next week, replays will appear in Clubhouse’s existing discovery options, including search. In addition, the firm is developing a “total room count” feature to provide hosts with more meaningful information on how many collective users listened to a certain room in total.
The option to replay audio rooms broadens Clubhouse’s appeal significantly for folks who don’t regularly catch live audio events. This allows anyone to use the app more like a podcast discovery engine if that’s what works for them. Creators will likely be pleased to have the opportunity for their greatest work to reach a wider audience long after a live room has ended.
