Google has introduced a new experimental feature for its AI assistant, Gemini, enabling personalized responses by integrating users’ Google Search histories. This feature allows Gemini to tailor its answers based on individual search activities, aiming to provide more relevant and insightful interactions.

To activate this feature, users can select “Personalization (experimental)” within the Gemini app, granting the assistant access to their Search history. Once enabled, Gemini analyzes prompts to determine if referencing past searches can enhance its responses. For example, when seeking restaurant recommendations, Gemini might consider recent food-related searches to offer suggestions aligning with the user’s preferences.

This personalization is powered by the Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model, designed to break down prompts into sequential steps, strengthening its reasoning capabilities and delivering better responses. Importantly, Gemini accesses Search history only when its advanced reasoning models deem it beneficial for the user’s query.

User privacy and control are central to this feature. Google ensures that Gemini will request explicit permission before connecting to a user’s Search history. Additionally, users can disconnect their Search history at any time, and Gemini provides transparency by outlining which data sources—such as saved information, past conversations, or search history—were utilized in formulating responses.

Currently, this personalization feature is available to Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers on the web and is gradually rolling out on mobile platforms. It supports over 45 languages and is accessible in most countries worldwide.

Looking ahead, Google plans to expand Gemini’s personalization capabilities by integrating it with other Google apps and services, including Photos and YouTube. This expansion aims to provide more personalized insights by drawing from a broader understanding of user activities and preferences, delivering responses that resonate more deeply with individual users.

This development underscores Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience through AI, offering more tailored and contextually relevant interactions while maintaining robust privacy controls.
