Recently, Meta announced an AI Sandbox for advertisers. This intends to help advertisers to create alternative copies, and background generation via text prompts. It will also be beneficial for image cropping for Facebook or Instagram ads.
One of its features would allow brands to generate different variations of identical copy for various audiences. Meanwhile, the core message of the ad will be similar to the original. Creating different assets for a campaign would get easier with the background generation feature. And here comes the image cropping feature. This is beneficial for companies to create visuals in different aspect ratios for various mediums. Social posts, stories, or short videos like Reels have different aspect ratios.
The company states that for now, these features are only available to select advertisers. It will probably expand its access to more advertisers in the month of July.
In order to collect quick feedback they are currently working with a small group of advertisers. They want to use this feedback to improve the quality of these products. It is said that they will start to slowly expand the access to more advertisers in July. And they have plans to include these features in their products later this year. These details were spilled in a blog post of Meta.
Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth had said that the company is thinking to use generative AI tech for ads in the last month. And now Meta came up with the announcement of AI Sandbox for advertisers.
These were the few things Bosworth said to Nikkei Asia in an interview at the time – “[I] expect we’ll start seeing some of them [commercialization of the tech] this year. We just created a new team, the generative AI team, a couple of months ago; they are very busy. It’s probably the area that I’m spending the most time [in], as well as Mark Zuckerberg and [Chief Product Officer] Chris Cox”.
Meta received positive quarterly results for Q1 2023. The company did better than analyst expectations. For the first time in three quarters, the company posted year-on-year revenue growth. As the tech giant began working on various AI tools, Mark Zuckerberg mentioned that it stayed committed to metaverse development
Although for advertisers, Meta is releasing a few lightweight generative AI features. Some ad tech startups are heavily dependent upon it. Last year at TechCrunch Disrupt, Omneky presented about creating ads using OpenAI’s DALLE-2 and GPT-3. Even Movio, backed by IDG, Sequoia Capital China, and Baidu Ventures also used generative AI to create marketing videos.
