Google Announces New 'Notes' Feature That Lets Users Comment on Search Results

To broaden the scope of the search experience, Google has unveiled a revolutionary feature known as “Notes.” This most recent addition, which places a strong emphasis on user empowerment, seeks to revolutionize how users interact with search results by providing fresh viewpoints and insights. Google’s search strategy has changed with the introduction of “Notes,” which recognizes the value of offering more than just search results. Google wants to provide its global user base with a richer and more personalized experience, so it prioritizes user contributions and insights. This feature might look a lot like the X platform’s “Community Notes.”

The purpose of this experimental feature is to help users find information that best suits their needs by giving them useful context about web pages. It also provides a platform for users to contribute their knowledge, adding to a collective body of information available to a larger audience. Notes are currently available as part of Google’s Search Labs initiative through an opt-in experiment. The Notes feature, which can be accessed via Google’s Android and iOS apps, is launched with language support for Hindi and English in India and English in the US.

Users will see a “Notes” button beneath search results in the Google app and on Discover articles after choosing to enable Notes within the Search Labs. By tapping this button, users can see what other people have to say about the webpage. Users can quickly and easily create a note to share their insights after coming across a helpful page. Notes can be customized with text, stickers, and images. To add a special touch, select from a variety of visual styles. This action fits in with Google’s larger plan to add more human perspectives to its search engine. Younger audiences, who are increasingly looking for varied and personalized information experiences on sites like Reddit, TikTok, and Instagram, are the target audience for this campaign.
