With its new interoperability support, Google Chat will now allow us to send messages to Slack and Microsoft Teams. Sending messages to Teams and Slack users will now be possible for all Google Workspace premium subscribers. And it’s noteworthy that to utilize the feature, both users and businesses need to use the Mio app.

It was a Google Workspace update that announced the new feature. According to the company, interoperability will let businesses that utilize Google Chat and other messaging platforms within their domain give their users a more seamless experience. This implies that users will be limited to using this tool to communicate with those who work for their own company. To text colleagues on different teams who communicate using a different app, this could be helpful.

However, there is no built-in cross-platform messaging capability in Google Chat. Consequently, in order to establish interoperability, users must download and install the Mio app. The difficult part will be this, as organizations will have to buy extra licenses to use the feature. For large organizations where teams do not communicate using the same messaging platform, this capability can be helpful despite the additional procedures involved. Users will be able to easily receive messages from one platform to another once it is enabled. In addition, they will be able to message or tag users even if they are on different platforms because of this feature. This feature makes it possible to tag, share files, send messages, and even share emoji reactions across different platforms.

Google announced plans to make Google Chat interoperable with Slack and Teams back in 2023. However during the beta testing stage, the feature was first only accessible to a small group of individuals. Now that Mio has officially announced the feature, anyone who meets the requirements can utilize it.
