The Most Recent Google Chrome Update Includes a Security Fix That You Should Install Right Away

To protect themselves against a critical security weakness that hackers are actively exploiting, Google Chrome users on Windows, Mac, and Linux should apply the most recent update to the browser.

“Google is aware of reports that an exploit for CVE-2022-3075 exists in the wild,” the company wrote in a blog post published on September 2nd. On August 30th, an anonymous tipster reported the issue, and Google claims the fix will be available to all users in the following days or weeks.

The corporation hasn’t revealed anything about the bug’s nature as of now. So far, that it is related to “insufficient data validation” in Mojo, a set of runtime libraries used by Chromium, the codebase on which Google Chrome is built.

“Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix,” the company added. By withholding such data for the time being, Google makes it more difficult for hackers to find out how to exploit the weakness before the latest update shuts the window for attacks.

To activate the update, Chrome users must restart the browser. This will update Chrome for Windows, Mac, and Linux to version 105.0.5195.102. To ensure you’re using the most recent version, click the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of your browser. Navigating to “Help,” then “About Google Chrome,” will take you to a website that will inform you if Chrome is up to current on your device.

Google Chrome version 105 was launched on August 30th. This update already included 24 security fixes. That didn’t seem to be enough.This is Chrome’s sixth zero-day vulnerability of the year. According to a reliable source, the most recent actively exploited vulnerability was discovered in mid-August.
