Google Chrome hasn’t been the best password manager, partly because you couldn’t add passwords yourself and had to wait for the browser to do it for you. However, you may soon have reasons to rethink. According to a reliable source, the most recent stable version of Chrome has a hidden flag (chrome:/flags/#add-passwords-in-settings) that allows you to manually enter passwords. If you know you’ll be signing into a bank or a favorite retailer regularly, you may save the credentials without having to visit the site first.
Reddit user Leopeva64-2 discovered the manual password functionality in Chrome Canary versions around the end of 2021. Although this feature is prevalent in other password managers, it is still useful if you want to utilize Google’s built-in functionality rather than installing applications and extensions. That same user just discovered a Chrome Canary 101 feature that allows you to add password notes. This is nothing new for password managers, but it might be useful if you want to recall the last time you changed your password or if you need a hint for any security questions. While this and the manual password mechanism may take some time to reach easily accessible settings, if you rely on Google’s password tools, they should be worth the wait.
