According to a credible source, Google Drive‘s “search chips,” which make it simpler to discover files, are now being rolled out to all Workspace users. The beta version of the new function was released late last year, and it allows you to narrow results by file type, modification date, location, people involved, and other parameters.
Fortunately, using the new functionality is simple. When you perform a standard search, you’ll see a list of six chips with dropdown menus: Location, File Type, People, Last Modified, Title Only, and To do. When you click or touch on one of these, your search results will be filtered by a relevant person in the context of people, or a date in the case of dates (Today, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, etc.).
Google Drive previously had a function for filtering files, but it was hidden under a sub-menu on the right-most icon in the search bar, so many users were likely unaware of its presence. As a result, the search chips are more of a (welcome) UI experience improvement than a brand-new function.
