Google has announced a suite of new AI-powered features for its Workspace applications, specifically enhancing Google Meet and Google Chat, to bolster user productivity and communication.
In Google Meet, users can now create custom virtual backgrounds using the “Generated Background Images” feature, allowing for personalized meeting environments that can obscure surroundings or enhance the meeting’s visual appeal. This feature includes various style options, such as professional office settings or home offices, to suit different preferences.
The “Studio Look” feature employs machine learning to detect and enhance video quality by reducing noise and sharpening the image, ensuring participants remain in clear focus during meetings. Additionally, “Studio Lighting” simulates professional lighting conditions by adjusting light position and brightness in real-time, contingent upon device compatibility.
To improve audio quality, “Studio Sound” automatically recreates and balances missing or distorted frequencies, making voices sound clearer and more balanced. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for users dialing in via phone or using standard headsets.
In Google Chat, the “Translate for me” feature has been introduced, which automatically detects and translates messages in over 120 languages to a user’s preferred language while keeping the original message available for review. This functionality aims to reduce friction and improve collaboration among colleagues, partners, and customers worldwide.
These AI enhancements are part of Google’s broader strategy to integrate advanced AI capabilities into its Workspace suite, following the recent inclusion of Gemini AI across various services. For instance, Gemini has been integrated into Google Calendar, enabling users to add events directly from emails without manual entry.
These features are being gradually introduced to Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus, as well as Enterprise Standard and Plus editions. Notably, these enhancements are included without the need for a separate Gemini add-on, reflecting Google’s commitment to providing advanced AI tools within its standard offerings.
By integrating these AI-driven tools, Google aims to enhance the overall user experience within Workspace, facilitating more efficient communication and collaboration across diverse teams and projects.
