If you are an Android user, you might have noticed the Google Play Movies & TV app combine into something called Google TV. But what exactly is this new app and how does it make getting to your streaming services easier? Here are all the answers!
The Google TV app for Android functions on the Chromecast with Google TV streaming stick. The key features and the user interface are the same, and you can easily sync your streaming progress across different devices under one user account. This feature enables Google TV to act as a one-stop space for everything you watch. Moreover, once you load up the app, you will get plenty of suggestions for ways you can spend your money on the latest TV shows and films.
Just like with the previous version, you can buy and rent digital content directly from Google instead of streaming it through an application that you are subscribed to. You will find this option on the ‘Home’ tab, and you can search further through the ‘Shop’ tab. To see everything that you have previously purchased, you can go to the ‘Library’ tab. This content can be synced to your devices for offline viewing, through the small download buttons.
To make a search query, you can either tap the search button at the top of the app or use the ‘Hey Google’ voice command to find something to watch. You can even expand your search and look for specific genres of films or films from a particular decade, or search for TV shows starring a specific actor.
Furthermore, the app also features Parental controls if you want to put age restrictions on the content. These controls are protected by a PIN but currently they are not integrated completely with the main parental control settings for Android. The Google TV app can also double up as a remote control for the compatible Android TV and Google TV devices.
The new app also supports a wide variety of third-party services including HBO Max, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney Plus, and of course YouTube TV. However, your selection will vary depending on the country you are in and the device you are on.
