Initially announced at last year’s Amazon hardware event, the Ring Always Home Cam is now ready to hit the market soon. As the name implies, the device is a ring camera attached to a drone that can fly pre-set paths inside your home. It works when triggered through the Ring app or a Ring Alarm sensor. The drone costs $249.99 and if you live in the US, you can now request an invitation to buy it today. Amazon will ship the devices later this year. As of now, it is an invite-only product and so, if you are interested, you can apply for an invitation to purchase it.
Amazon announced its sale along with the new Ring Alarm Pro, Blink Video Doorbell, and numerous other products. The new Ring Always Home Cam is an indoor security camera that primarily refers to a flying drone that is strapped with a Ring camera on the bottom. It can be used to keep on what is going inside your house even when you are away. The device is capable of streaming 1080p videos to your smartphone through the Ring app and allows you t check every corner of your house. When not in use, the device rests in a charging dock that blocks its lens.
With a pre-set path to be followed, the device can fly to specific viewpoints on-demand, like the kitchen or the front door. Moreover, it can also convert into a home security system alarm and move to the respective spot, for instance when a window open and the alarm is alerted.
At present, the camera is not designed to cover multiple floors. So, flying up or down the stairs is not an option at the moment. The same holds true for remote control, which Ring developers have said is not a viable option due to privacy and security reasons. Also, the Always Home Cam is not equipped to record footage while it is docked in the charging point. And in case you are worried about its access to private spaces inside your home, relax! The device comes with a set of loud propellers that will make its presence known.
