Since at least March of last year, LinkedIn has been working on a Clubhouse-style live audio room feature. It is now planned to launch that as part of a new events platform later this month.
According to a reliable source, the aim is to allow organizers to convene virtual round tables, fireside chats, and other types of conversations however they see appropriate. Discussion can be moderated by hosts, and participants will be able to communicate with one another both during and after events. LinkedIn’s in-house technologies will be used to conduct events.
LinkedIn initially hoped that members of its strong creator community (people who create and distribute content on topics such as career growth) would conduct events. In the future, LinkedIn hopes to incorporate larger corporations in running events.
A video version of the feature will be available in the spring. Organizers will presumably be unable to charge for entry for the time being, as LinkedIn has no intentions for paid events.
Aside from Clubhouse, other major tech firms like Facebook, Twitter, and Discord have launched their versions of live audio rooms. LinkedIn may be a little late to the game, but its approach to the format could be a long-term success, with several of its members ready to learn from people keen to impart their expertise, experience, and ideas.
