The Meta AI chatbot on WhatsApp for Android is getting an exciting new update! The instant messaging service is working on introducing a Voice Mode to Meta AI, which will enable users to conduct two-way conversations with the chatbot, according to the WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo.
If you’ve been following reports on the AI features coming to WhatsApp, this might not be the first time you’ve heard of this feature. Initial reports of the Meta AI chatbot getting a voice feature surfaced recently. Now, we have more information about it.
The WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.18 was found to have the voice mode functionality for Meta AI, according to a post by WABetaInfo.
The Voice Mode feature’s UI can be seen in the screenshots provided within the post. You can use the Voice Mode by long-pressing the Meta AI button that appears above the New Chat icon. To switch to a hands-free mode, simply tap on the waveform that is situated next to the text field in the MetaAI chat.
The third screenshot showed a bottom page with the word “Meta AI” displayed on it, along with a circular aura icon that most likely represents the speech mode. You can see icons for speaker, mute, and disconnect voice mode beneath that.
Users retain complete control over their privacy thanks to the ability to end the audio chat mode at any time by exiting the chat or switching to text mode. Additionally, users can check if Meta AI has stopped listening using the Android OS’s visual indicator which appears as a little icon in the status bar at the top of the screen.
Recent updates to WhatsApp have given Meta AI access to additional features including picture editing, creating unique avatars, comprehension of new languages, and more.
