Microsoft has formed a new engineering division, CoreAI – Platform and Tools, dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for developers. This strategic move underscores Microsoft’s commitment to integrating AI across its product suite and enhancing developer experiences.
Leading this initiative is Jay Parikh, a former Meta executive who joined Microsoft in October 2024. As Executive Vice President of CoreAI, Parikh will oversee the integration of various teams, including the Developer Division (Dev Div), AI Platform, and members from the Office of the CTO. This initiative establishes a unified ecosystem of AI platforms and tools.
CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the transformative potential of AI, stating that the industry is entering a new phase where AI will reshape all application categories. He highlighted the need for an “AI-first app stack” to drive innovation and efficiency in software development.
The CoreAI group will focus on building end-to-end AI solutions, including the development of AI agents and applications that leverage Microsoft’s existing tools such as Azure AI Foundry, GitHub, and Visual Studio Code. By doing so, Microsoft aims to provide both first-party and third-party customers with the capabilities to build and run AI applications seamlessly.
This initiative aligns with Microsoft’s vision to position Azure as the foundational infrastructure for AI, supporting a comprehensive platform and developer tools that facilitate the creation of intelligent applications. By consolidating its AI efforts under the CoreAI division, Microsoft seeks to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies and empower developers to build innovative solutions across various industries.
