Microsoft’s OneDrive is gearing up to flaunt a range of new features “all through the magic of AI.” The upcoming features are meant to boost productivity at work and home.

Microsoft’s Copilot generative AI technology takes center stage. By compiling files and data into a shareable assistant, Copilot Agents can be tailored to help with task management. They can be shared across other internal platforms like Microsoft Teams and SharePoint to facilitate simpler collaboration. They can also automate repetitive operations like retrieving documents and summarizing important information. Since agents can be shared directly in Teams, even new team members can use them with ease.

“Need to onboard a new team member? Instead of sending them multiple links, emails, and files, you can simply share your Copilot Agent in a Teams chat,” says Vice President of Product at OneDrive, Jason Moore in the company’s new blog post.

Windows File Explorer will now support the colored folders in OneDrive. Microsoft also intends to enhance OneDrive’s “document library experience” with “significant improvements” by mid-2025.

For iOS and Android users, a new OneDrive app is also in the works. It will include a “photos-first” mobile interface that makes it simple to browse through contacts, albums, and favorites.  The latest UX will be available to Android users immediately, but iOS users will have to wait until November.

Additionally, there’s an enhanced AI-powered photo search that enables you to look for photos using plain, conversational English. This means that you can search how you speak; for example, typing “Sophia and her dog on a boat” will get you the desired pictures.

Microsoft has also hinted at upcoming OneDrive capabilities, such as AI-powered photo management from the mobile app, Microsoft Designer integration for effortless editing, and personalized views that automatically organize files and photos according to different themes.
