Netflix is expanding its list of games with the inclusion of the ‘Netflix Heads Up!’, a custom version of the popular charades game. Heads Up is a party game where participants have to guess the word on their player’s head before the one-minute timer runs out, while the rest of the players give hints on what the word could be.
According to the announcement made by Netflix, the game will be rolled out globally to all iOS and Android Netflix subscribers and will be available in 15 languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Thai.
Netflix subscribers will be able to play the game with 28 decks inspired by some of their most popular series, including “Bridgeton,” “Stranger Things,” “Squid Game” and more. Players will also be able to share recordings of their matches with friends and family on Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and more. More general entertainment decks are also available for genres like anime, true crime, and baking shows, so chances are if you watch any exclusive Netflix content on the regular, you’ll find a category that takes your fancy.
The game Heads Up! has featured prominently on the Ellen show (having been published by Ellen Digital Venture but developed by Gasket Games) and has so far collected over 70 million downloads globally. It’s also been ranked as Apple’s top paid app in the app store for the past five consecutive years (available for $1.99) and is currently free to download via the Google Play store. This is the 27th game in Netflix’s game catalog. Previously the platform had released popular titles like Stranger Things 1984, first-person shooter titles, etc.
