Now that Netflix is delivering mobile games on Android, one issue remains: how will iOS gamers participate when Apple’s regulations prohibit all-in-one gaming services? Apparently, the hard way. There have been rumors that code has been discovered showing that Netflix would offer all of its games “individually” for iOS, via the App Store. According to sources, not all of them will be available and playable within the app.
The main Netflix app would still provide access to the game collection, but tapping a game would launch a new app. That is how it now works with Android, although Netflix has the option of including games into its Android app. It would have no choice but to make games available separately on iOS. Apple mandates that every game on the App Store be individually screened, even if it is only accessible over the cloud.
Given Apple’s strategy, this was probably inevitable, but it still implies that Netflix will have to make some concessions if it wants to bring mobile gaming to iOS.
