Google has announced a new AI feature for Gmail on Android that will enhance users’ ability to search their inboxes. Launched recently, this Gemini-powered tool, called Gmail Q&A, is now available for Workspace users. With this feature, users can prompt Gemini within Gmail to retrieve specific information from their emails, and the AI will efficiently locate it. While this functionality was previously accessible on the web version of Gmail, it is now being rolled out for the Android app, with plans to extend it to iOS soon.

Google revealed in a blog post that the new feature will be accessible through the Gemini tool located at the top-right corner of the Gmail app. To use this feature, users must be signed into their Google Workspace account. In addition to searching through their inbox, users can utilize this tool to check unread messages, filter messages from a particular sender, or summarize emails.

To use the feature, users should click on the black Gemini star located at the top-right corner of the app. Users also have the option to tap the “summarize this email” button while reading an email thread. For vague queries, such as “What was the company’s expenditure on the last marketing event?”, simply ask Gmail Q&A, and Gemini will sift through your inbox to provide the answer.

The company mentioned that in the future, the AI feature will also be capable of retrieving information from files and documents stored in Google Drive. Although the feature has been launched, the blog post stated that it might take up to 15 days for it to become available to all Workspace users. For Workspace users to benefit from this feature, they must hold a subscription to one of the following add-ons: Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium.

In another move, Google has added Gemini extensions for Google Keep and Google Tasks. Workspace users with a Pixel 9 series phone can seamlessly interact with these apps right from the Gemini app using text commands. Stay ahead of the curve with Gmail’s cutting-edge Gemini-powered Q&A feature, and make managing your inbox on your Android device more intuitive than ever!
