YouTube has launched a new feature that is designed to help users see the most popular parts of a particular video, along with some other changes in its video player. The company has said that it is adding a graph that users can utilize to locate and watch the most replayed parts of a particular video. This feature would be especially useful for long videos that have not broken down their different sections using chapters or timestamps.
This feature was available as an experiment that the premium subscribers of YouTube could access from the platform. However, now it will become available to all YouTube users – both Premium and free – across various devices and operating systems. This will now help users to skip the boring detailed parts of a video and let you skip to the interesting part of the video that is being played most by other users.
YouTube has said that a graph will now appear behind its progress bar that will help a user identify the popular parts of a video. If the graph is high, then it means that that specific part of the video has been replayed several times. You can use that graph to quickly find and watch those moments. This new graph will be visible as you move through the progress bar.
While creators still have the option to segment and divide their long videos into chapters or offer links to select parts through timestamps, this new graph will make it possible for users to go through any YouTube video to quickly find the most interesting sections. These segments may or may not always relate to where these chapters or timestamps would be located. Moreover, this feature can help users find the most useful part of a tutorial video or the part that has the most action (like the most-watched segment of footage from a gamer’s video).
Additionally, YouTube is also rolling out support for video chapters, which is the segmenting tool that was first launched in May 2020, to smart TVs and gaming consoles. Another new feature called Single Loop will now allow users to put a single video on endless repeat. In order to access this feature, you will have to select the option from the same menu where you can adjust the quality of a video, turn on captions, etc.
Also, a new panel will now appear in the full-screen mode that displays information about the video – like description, chapters, and comments. Users will be able to access quick action buttons here to like, comment, dislike, share, or add a video to a playlist directly from full-screen mode. YouTube has also teased that it will soon begin another experiment that will enable users to find the exact moment in a video that they want to watch. This too will be first made available to the premium subscribers on YouTube.
