OpenAI has introduced an exciting new feature for ChatGPT called “Projects,” designed to make organizing your work easier and more efficient. Think of it as a smart folder system that helps you manage everything you’re working on with the AI chatbot. Whether you’re brainstorming ideas, planning events, or keeping track of ongoing tasks, Projects is here to simplify your workflow.
In a demo video showcasing the feature, the “Projects” list appears conveniently in the sidebar. Creating a new project is simple—you can edit the title, assign a color to the project’s icon, and even add files or specific instructions to tailor how ChatGPT responds within that project. Plus, you can include previous chats, so everything related to a single project stays in one place. Whether you’re planning a Secret Santa gift exchange or tackling home maintenance, as demonstrated in the video, the feature is designed to adapt to various needs.
For those who’ve struggled to keep their work organized—perhaps resorting to scattered notes in apps like Apple Notes—this new system could be a game-changer. It offers a more streamlined way to keep track of your projects and collaborate with ChatGPT, making it a valuable tool for personal and professional use.
The feature has already been rolled out to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Teams users. Free users will get access “as soon as possible,” while Enterprise and Edu users can expect it “early in the new year,” according to OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, Kevin Weil.
Interestingly, this launch is part of OpenAI’s “12 days of ship-mas,” a series of announcements showcasing new features and updates. So far, we’ve seen the release of the Sora video generator, the Canvas view for ChatGPT, and a $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro subscription. With Projects, OpenAI is bringing a practical and user-friendly upgrade to ChatGPT, catering to those who need more structure in their interactions.
